The Beginning
The first God 4 Girls’
project was in Pointe Noire, The Republic of Congo. Girls, some
as young as 5, were being sold in the red-light district at
night by desperate family members with no prospects for
employment. Girls of the community were not educated and left
illiterate. Most residents have no utilities. Clothing stores
are also rare, and most garments seamstress-made. With a
shortage of seamstresses, the market was just waiting!
In partnership with resident
missionaries and the non-profit, Clear Target, a two-story
school was built! Students graced the halls of a school for the
first time! Girls embraced the freedom that Christ came to
give, and wholeness for a promising future! Their medical needs
were addressed and a diversified garden planted to teach them
how to grow produce. They began reading and writing. A sewing
lab was established and Women’s Ministries shipped in treadle
sewing machines. The students learned to make product and sold
them in the school boutique. Eventually, girls began bringing
their own treadle machine home so the family could have their
own small business. In turn, the families of students stopped
selling their daughters!
Today the program is
overseen by the indigenous church in Congo. Glory to God!
